Environmental crime

Environmental crime impacts on our communities and contributes to people’s fear of crime.

Types of environmental crime include: fly tipping, littering, graffiti and vandalism. All these acts are illegal, pollute the surroundings in which we live, cause harm to human health and can ruin the appearance of your neighbourhood.

That's why Woking Borough Council is committed to tackling these types of anti social behaviour. The Council's team of Neighbourhood Officers work in partnership with the Police and other agencies to combat environmental crime and take action against offenders to ensure Woking remains a clean, green and safe place to live, work and visit.

The Government has legislated to give powers to Local Authorities to help them protect the environment and encourage individuals and businesses to be more responsible. They include powers to immediately remove abandoned vehicles and issue on the spot fines for a range of litter and waste offences.

It’s really important to report anti-social behaviour whenever it occurs. All residents have a role to play, don't put up with it - report it. The Council can and do prosecute offenders who commit these acts.

By using these powers we aim to change behaviours, reduce the continued cost of cleaning up afterwards and allow resources to concentrate on improving the quality of the environment.
