Annual sustainability report

Sustainability has been high on the Council's agenda for a number of years and much effort has been put into building this into all that the Council does. A key outcome in driving this process forward has been the development of the 'Themes of a Sustainable Woking', for use as a guide and a checklist. The themes form the Council's sustainability objectives. The Annual Sustainability Report was an attempt at measuring and monitoring progress against these objectives.

The overall purpose of the Annual Sustainability Report was to assess the Council's performance (in terms of its own activities and the services it provides) against each of the themes, and in so doing determine how successful the Council has been in meeting the sustainability objectives.

The report listed each of the Themes of a Sustainable Woking and cross-referenced them with the Community Strategy Key Aims.  A series of indicators were chosen for each theme, which were considered to be of relevance to that particular theme. At the Executive Committee meeting on 7th June 2007, the decision was taken to include all of the sustainability indicators from the Annual Sustainability Report within the Council's Annual Service and Performance Plan 2007/08.   This includes the out turn figures for the sustainability indicators for 2006/07.  It is intended that this performance management process will be used to monitor the sustainability indicators in future years.  A key benefit of this is that the sustainability indicators will be compiled to the same format and timeframe as the Council's principal performance management process.
