Polling District and Polling Place Review 2011

Under the Review of Polling District and Polling Places (Parliamentary Elections) Regulations 2006, all local authorities must conduct a review of all polling districts and polling places within the Borough every four years.

The review is carried out make sure that the polling district boundaries are still suitable. It also reviews the allocated polling places to ensure electors have reasonable and accessible voting facilities. In conducting the review of polling places, the Council must ensure that all polling places are accessible for those who are disabled.

The review relates to the polling districts and polling places within Woking Borough boundaries only. As Woking County Constituency consists of the the whole of Woking Borough and the Normandy and Pirbright wards of Guildford Borough, these wards will be reviewed by Guildford Borough Council.

Results of the Review

The Executive considered the proposals at its meeting on 13 October 2011. A copy of the report and the minutes of the meeting are available to view. The Council, at its meeting on 20 October 2011, agreed the proposed arrangements for the polling districts and polling places.

In addition, it agreed that a further consultation exercise be carried out regarding the proposed changes for the Brookwood polling district. The deadline for comments on this proposal is 24 November 2011.

Authority has also been delegated to the Chief Executive, in consultation with the Executive Portfolio Holder for elections and electoral registration, to review the Kingfield polling district boundary, with a view to incorporate the Gresham Mills development within the Kingfield polling district.

All amendments will come into effect when the revised electoral register is published on 1 December 2011.
