Here is a summary of the support provided through the Council's grant scheme in 2009/10.
Age Concern Woking
The Council has awarded a grant to support the services of Age Concern Woking. The contribution will support the services of the group for the elderly in the coming year.
Attitude Youth Group
Attitude Youth Group was formed to provide a save environment in which youths can mix, socialise and take part in activities. The Council's support will provide a stable level of long term support for the group.
Carers Support Woking
The aim of Carers Support Woking is to enable carers to access services and benefits by providing advice, information, advocacy and support. The Council's support will enable the group to continue to provide its service to carers in Woking.
FamilyLine Surrey
FamilyLine Surrey provides a confidential helpline for families in Surrey. The grant award will contribute towards the staff costs.
Horsell Village Hall
In August 2004 the hall (located next to Queen Elizabeth Gardens in the High Street, Horsell) was registered as a charity. The hall opened on 2 November 1907 and consists of two halls, a kitchen and toilets. The grant award will contribute towards the costs of sound proofing measures in the small hall.
Lets Read Ltd
The aim of Lets Read Ltd is to promote the benefit of public of urban or rural regeneration in areas of social and economic deprivation. The Council's support will assist with the costs of the Group's literacy improvement programme.
Life Education Centres Croydon and Surrey
Life Education Centres is a nationwide charity that provides advice to children aged 3 to 11 years on drugs and lifestyles. The grant awarded will contribute towards the Groups programme of lifestyle education to school children within the Borough.
Lift Up Together
Lift Up Together was established to meet an identified need in the local community in the absence of suitable facilities for those with mental health issues. The grant awarded will contribute towards the cost of the weekly support sessions.
Link Leisure
Link Leisure was established in 1989 to work with children and adults with learning disabilities. The Council's support will enable Link Leisure to continue to provide its services.
Marjorie Richardson Centre
The coffee shop is based in Woking Town Centre and aims to provide a comfortable environment for older people from all walks of life. The grant will enable the service provided by the group to continue in the coming year.
North West Surrey Association of Disabled People (NWSADP)
The Council awarded NWSADP a grant to enable the group to provide a disability information and advocacy service. The group seeks to promote, enable and increase disabled people's involvement within their local community through a free, independent and confidential advocacy and information service.
Older Peoples Forum
The forum seeks to provide a channel of communication through which the older residents of Woking can identify matters of concern. The grant awarded will go towards the cost of the forum.
Old Woking and District Community Association
The aim of the association is to provide a community facility for Old Woking and the wider area. The one-off grant will contribute towards the installation of a disabled toilet at the Centre and the replacement of doors and windows with double glazing.
Relate West Surrey
Relate West Surrey offers counselling, sexual therapy and training, and education workshops to adults experiencing difficulties in their relationships. The group also offers counselling to young people affected by the breakdown of their parents' relationship. The Council has supported the group by providing a grant to assist with the cost of the service charge for their accommodation.
Runnymede Dolphins
Runnymede Dolphins is an assisted swim charity offering Runnymede and Woking residents with restricted mobility the opportunity to exercise in a safe and friendly environment. The Council has supported the group by providing a one-off grant towards the cost of equipment for general community use and to investigate possible funds from the Everyday Swim Programme.
Sheerwater Helping Hands
Sheerwater Helping Hands is a newly established good neighbour scheme to operate in Sheerwater. The grant will assist the group with its initial set up costs.
Sheerwater Scout Group
The one-off grant will contribute towards costs of any necessary repairs/improvements to the Clubs facilities. The Scout group supports and develops young people through the provision of outdoor activities and learning provided by the Scout movement.
South East, & Central Woking and Maybury Care
The aim of the group is to establish a local care scheme to provide services such as shopping, friendly visits, escorted transport to medical appointments, filling in forms and signposting to other services. The Council has supported the group by providing a one-off grant will contribute towards start-up costs.
St. Paul's Church
St. Paul's Church was built in 1985 and the Church seeks to engage with the local community. The grant will go towards the cost of a footpath/cycle way for the public and improved access to the Hall .
Strollers
The aim of Strollers is to provide `coffee and conversation' in a caring environment for retired and disabled people. The grant will enable the service provided by the group to continue in the coming year.
Surrey Archaeological Society
A contribution towards the costs of a programme of archaeological investigations at Woking Palace, Woking's most important heritage site.
Surrey Family Mediation Service
The Council's support will ensure the continuation of services to Woking residents. Surrey Family Mediation seeks to alleviate the hardship and distress caused by the break-up of relationships, marriage, civil partnerships and family.
Surrey Welfare Rights Unit
Surrey Welfare Rights Unit provides specialist support to community organisations and statutory authorities dealing with welfare rights issues. The Council's support will ensure the continuation of services, whilst the Unit implements a new funding strategy.
Surrey Women's Aid
The Council has awarded Surrey Women's Aid a grant to enable the continuation of the domestic abuse outreach service provided in the Borough of Woking. The group seeks to relieve need, hardship and distress among those who have suffered grave or persistent assault and battery by a close relative with whom they are or have been living with and any children thereof.
The Coign Church
The Coign Church was formed in the 1880's and is based in Woking Town Centre. The Councils support will assist with the costs of a new project called The Sanctuary which seeks to aid refugees and asylum seekers in Woking through a weekly drop-in centre.
The Maybury Centre Trust
The Maybury Centre provides facilities for social and business events, health, education, welfare and general recreation for the people of Woking. The Council's support will enable the Centre to continue providing its services, including the management of Alpha Road Community Hall and the Schoolhouse Tea Rooms at the Maybury Centre. The grant will also support the creche facilities at the Centre until the end of June 2009, thereby supporting access to learning to local residents.
The Terrence Higgins Trust
The Terrence Higgins Trust Surrey seeks to reduce the spread of HIV and promote good sexual health, provide services that improve the health and quality of life of those affected, and campaign for greater public understanding of the impact of HIV/AIDS. The grant will contribute towards the costs of services within the Borough.
Woking and Surrey Heath Crossroads
The group provides a respite care service to carers for families with disabled relatives. The grant will provide additional care hours for families in the Woking area to reduce the service's waiting list.
Woking Association of Voluntary Service (WAVS)
The Service has been in existence since 1905 and aims to provide support, representation and advice to voluntary and community organisations in the Borough of Woking. The Council's support will enable WAVS to maintain its current level of support.
Woking Citizens Advice Bureau
Woking Citizens Advice Bureau aims to provide advice and assistance to local clients in all areas of social law and related matters. The grant will enable the Bureau to continue to provide its services to residents of Woking.
Woking College
Woking College has been awarded a grant to allow the drop-in sessions provided through the Maybury IT Learning Centre to continue for the coming year.
Woking Community Mediation Service
The aim of the Service is to help neighbours find a solution to difficulties that suits all the parties involved. The funding will support the Service throughout the financial year and ensure a suitable level of support in order to secure the services in the longer term.
Woking Community Play Association
The association seeks to educate the public in local history through staging community plays. The Council's contribution will ensure that the Play can be developed and that other agencies can be approached.
Woking Community Transport
Woking Community Transport provides accessible door-to-door transport to those who could otherwise be socially excluded because of poverty, disability or age. The grants will support the Dial-a-Ride service to the east of the Borough, and provide a comprehensive service to residents of Woking, plus enable the Town Centre Buggy service to continue in the Town Centre.
Woking Football in the Community
The aim of the scheme is to provide football coaching, Saturday soccer clubs and information on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle for young people in Woking. The Councils support will enable the scheme to continue within the Borough.
Woking Pakistan Muslim Welfare Association (PMWA)
The Neighbourhood Advice Centre is a project set up by Woking PMWA. The aim of Neighbourhood Advice is to offer assistance and advice to the community on issues such as immigration, nationality, benefits and public utilities. The grant will enable the group to continue to provide its services in the community to the end of June 2009.
Woking People of Faith
Woking People of Faith Forum is a multi-faith organisation providing a platform for people to get together and gain understanding of each other. The grant will provide initial support for the employment of a part-time employee to support the work of the forum.
Woking ShopMobility
The group provides mobility equipment for disabled and older people for use in the Town Centre. The Council's award will help Woking ShopMobility with their running costs in line with the three year rolling grant, which was introduced with the view of enabling the group to undertake long-term planning.
Woking Talking Newspapers Association
The aim of the association is to provide Woking residents who have visual impairment access to the local newspapers with a weekly audio cassette containing local news. The Council has supported the association in the form of rent of accommodation at Moorcroft.
York Road Project
The York Road Project provides a direct access shelter in Woking for single homeless and other vulnerable people. The Council's support will enable the Project to provide daytime services.
