11 Million

11 Million is a national initiative led by the Children's Commissioner for England, created by the Children's Act 2004, to give a voice to the 11 million children and young people living in England.  11 Million has two long term goals...

1. Children and young people see significant improvements in thier wellbeing and can freely enjoy their rights under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

2. Children and young people are more highly valued by adult society.

11 Million Takeover Day is the main event used to celebrate these goals by inviting local children and young people to 'takeover' organisations for one day.  We encourage organisations and local people in Woking to get involved in this event in future years.

Woking Borough Council celebrated this year's Takeover Day on Friday 7 November by inviting a 7-year old student from Beaufort Primary School to 'takeover' his StayPlay after school club for the day.  The event was a huge success and he enjoyed having the opportunity to lead the staff and activities throughout the session.

Woking Borough Council will continue to support this initiative next year.  Watch this space for news on 2009's Takeover Day event!
