Woking is a safe place to live and work. Fortunately, disasters are rare, but we do have to be prepared for them. Emergencies can happen at any time and anywhere.
Emergency planning is a partnership between, emergency responders (emergency services, local authorities and National Health Service, utilities), residents and businesses.
Woking Borough Council is one of Surrey’s emergency responders. It is part of Surrey’s Local Resilience Forum. Surrey’s Local Resilience Forum oversees emergency preparations to make sure that Surrey’s response to any disaster is as effective as it can be.
As part of its preparations, Surrey’s Local Resilience Forum has compiled a Community Risk Register. The Community Risk Register lists the risks that face Surrey. Each risk has been given a risk rating which is worked out from the likelihood of an incident happening and the impact that it may have. Surrey’s Local Resilience Forum then makes the necessary emergency plans.
Surrey’s response to most emergencies will be coordinated by Surrey’s Local Resilience Forum using Surrey's Major Incident Plan. Woking Borough Council will play its part in supporting this response and it has its own emergency plan.
We are working hard to make sure that Woking is as prepared as it can be. It is important that you are ready too. You can help by being informed and organised. The booklet, Preparing for Emergencies, tells you how you can help yourself and your family in emergencies. The booklet is provided in a number of different languages and contains common sense information which may seem obvious or familiar to you, but could protect you and your property. You could also help by joining one of the voluntary organisations in Woking.
Successful businesses are essential to the prosperity and well-being of Woking. Woking Borough Council is working with Surrey’s Local Resilience Forum and the Chambers of Commerce to help local businesses develop their business continuity plans. Business continuity planning cannot prevent emergencies but it can prepare you, reduce the risks of unexpected shocks and help your business recover in the event of a disaster.
